Doha Talks Marked “Beginning Of The End”: Former Afghan Vice-President

Former Afghan vice-president Amrullah Saleh said that the peace negotiations between Kabul and the Taliban became “the beginning of the end” for the country.

Mr Saleh, who recently declared himself the acting President of the country, also said that the US and NATO should have kept 2,500 soldiers in Afghanistan. “But now that they did not and they are paying the price,” he added, Sputnik reported citing German newspaper Der Spiegel.

✅ “The intra-Afghan dialogue was flawed from the very beginning as the Taliban never believed in a political solution to the decades-long conflict,” Mr Saleh said.
✅ He further called for the international recognition of the resistance pocket in Panjshir and for providing him with moral and political support, Sputnik reported.
✅ Fighters in Panjshir have prevented the capture of the region from Taliban terrorists by firing a heavy machine gun into a deep valley from the top of the rocky mountain.

In his first statement since fleeing, he said he left to prevent a ‘flood of bloodshed’

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said on Sunday after fleeing the country that the Taliban had won, as the militants entered Kabul – nearly 20 years after they were ousted from power by a US-led invasion.
Mr Ghani left as the insurgents closed in on the capital, before ultimately entering the city and taking over the presidential palace, sealing a nationwide military victory in just 10 days.
The Taliban have carried out a lightning sweep of the country, with government forces collapsing without the support of the US military, which is finalising its withdrawal in alignment with an August 31 deadline set by President Joe Biden.
The insurgents’ imminent takeover triggered fear and panic in Kabul among residents fearful of the group’s hardline brand of Islam, which it imposed during its 1996-2001 rule.
“The Taliban have won with the judgement of their swords and guns, and are now responsible for the honour, property and self-preservation of their countrymen,” Mr Ghani said in a statement posted to Facebook, his first since fleeing.
“They are now facing a new historical test. Either they will preserve the name and honour of Afghanistan or they will give priority to other places and networks,” he added, saying he left to prevent a “flood of bloodshed”.
